Roles at Lumino The Dentists:
Dentists:
The chief role of a Lumino The Dentists dentist is to take care of the precious dental health of our patients. They educate patients on how to look after their teeth and gums and perform regular check-ups to make sure that the mouth is being kept in the best condition possible. Some common tasks might include: examining the mouth, gums, teeth and jaw, treating diseased gums and replacing missing teeth. Lumino the Dentists dentists may also help improve peoples’ confidence and self-esteem by cosmetically improving the appearance of their teeth.
In the majority of our practices we will also appoint a lead dentist who works in continual and close partnership with the Practice Support Manager to optimise all aspects of practice operations and financial performance. Support is provided from the Support Centre in the form of a dedicated practice support manager.
Lumino The Dentists dentists usually have dental assistants and dental hygienists working for them who will help take x-rays, clean patients’ teeth and teach patients how to care for their teeth and gums at home.
If you decide to become a Lumino The Dentists dentist you will have access to the best dental technology and resources available. You can also rest assured that your training and personal development is something that Lumino The Dentists takes very seriously and will invest heavily in.
To become a dentist you need to have a Bachelor of Dental Surgery or an equivalent overseas qualification that is accepted by the Dental Council of New Zealand. An annual practicing certificate and registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand is also required.
Clinical Dental
Technicians:
Lumino The Dentists clinical dental technicians are qualified dental technicians who have received additional training in clinical and interpersonal skills, enabling them to work with the public. Their role involves designing, creating, constructing and modifying removable dental appliances for patients, ensuring optimal fit, maximum comfort and the general well being of their patients.
To become a dental technician, you need to have a Bachelor of Dental Technology. To progress on to becoming a clinical dental technician (a dental technician that is qualified to work with the public) you must work as a dental technician for two years before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Technology.
Dental Assistants:
Lumino The Dentists dental assistants help the dentists with patient care and the day-to-day running of the dental practice. You will be expected, along with other important tasks, to greet and prepare patients for treatment, keep the practice clean and tidy and pass instruments and materials to the dentist as required.
Our dental assistants are extremely valued members of the Lumino The Dentists team. They benefit from working alongside some of the country’s most esteemed dental practitioners as well as from continued training and professional development.
There are no specific entry requirements to become a dental assistant as they are usually trained, by dentists, on the job. However, the New Zealand Dental Association runs courses for dental assistants and a Certificate of Dental Surgery Assisting is issued on completion. AUT also offers a certificate course for dental assistants.
Dental Hygienists:
The main role of the Lumino The Dentists dental hygienist is to help patients to maintain good oral and general health by educating them on how to prevent oral disease through care of their teeth and gums. Dental hygienists also carry out teeth cleanings and treat gum disease. During an average day they might provide preventive care for tooth decay, assess and provisionally diagnose gum disease and develop care plans for patients.
Lumino The Dentists dental hygienists play a crucial role in the patient care and are very much appreciated. They are rewarded with warm, friendly working conditions, a competitive remuneration structure and excellent future career prospects and training.
To become a Lumino The Dentists dental hygienist, you will need a Diploma in Dental Hygiene or a Bachelor of Health Sciences (endorsed in Dental Hygiene). You must also be registered and hold a practicing certificate with the Dental Council before you start to practice.
Practice Managers:
The Lumino The Dentists practice manager plays a key part in the running of the dental practice. The practice manager works in continual and close partnership with the Lead Dentist to improve practice performance by co-ordinating and managing all functional aspects of the practice including: day-to-day practice operations, people management, financial performance and driving and leading practice culture.
There are no specific entry requirements for practice managers although previous office and management experience gained within a service environment is a definite advantage.
Dental Receptionists:
The Lumino The Dentists dental receptionist is a key member of the dental practice team. They meet and greet patients, make appointments, maintain accounts and patient records and record patients’ information.
There are no specific entry requirements for dental receptionists although clerical or medical experience or experience working with people can prove useful.
